As if the reveal of an awesome new trailer for The Defenders wasn’t enough, Comic-Con International saw Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb announce that Iron Fist has been renewed for a second season. Despite not getting the best response from critics and fans alike, it did generate the second-highest debut for a for a Marvel series on Netflix, coming in just behind Luke Cage. I for one am glad to see the defender of K’un-Lun get a second chance to show his worth, as despite there being plenty of misgiving in the first season, there is still plenty of potential in the character.
In addition to announcing the show’s renewal, Loeb also hinted the possibility of Misty Knight (Simone Missick) joining the cast. This could potentially lead to a possible team-up between Knight and Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick), with the duo being known in comics as The Daughters of the Dragon. Misty Knight previously appeared in the first season of fellow Marvel Netflix show, Luke Cage.
Raven Metzner will take over as showrunner for this second season of Iron First, having previously worked on the likes of Sleepy Hollow, Falling Skies and Heroes Reborn. He will be replacing first season showrunner, Scott Buck, who is currently working on new Marvel series Inhumans, which got a new trailer at SDCC.
But what do you think? Are you happy Iron Fist is getting a second chance? Or was the first season too bad to warrant a second?
