Since it was first announced that Rebellion will be teaming up with IM Global to produce a Judge Dredd: Mega-City One TV show, questions have arisen regarding what network it will air on and who will don the Judge’s helmet. One man that I’m sure many fans would love to see take on the role, is none other than Karl Urban, the man responsible for bringing the iconic comic book character to life in the 2012 Lionsgate film. Though no further announcements regarding the show have been made, the possibility of Urban reprising his role isn’t out of the the question, with the actor revealing during a panel at Star Trek Las Vegas that he is indeed in talks to do so.
I am in discussions with them about that. I told them that if they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there. I would love to.
- Karl Urban
Though there is a part of me that feels this project deserves a fresh start, the casting of Urban as Judge Dredd is one that I would gladly see. Having giving us a sensational performance during the 2012 Dredd movie, the actor is sure to be the first pick for many fans, with the petition to make a sequel seeing citizens clamouring to sign up. If it turns out that the TV executives have a different plan for their show, I am sure fans will remain invested in the project, with the prospect of Dredd returning to any form of live-action media being enough to raise excitement.
But what do you think? Should the TV show sign Karl Urban as Dredd? Or should someone else take on the iconic helmet?
