Having given us a glimpse at the style and feel of Blade Runner 2049 with their announcement trailer, Warner Bros. finally give us a definitive look into this sequel. Showcasing some sensational visuals as well as a familiar tone, this trailer certainly feels like a fitting continuation of a classic. But don’t just take our word for it, check out the trailer for yourself below!
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
If I’m being honest I had mixed feelings about this film when it was first announced, feeling that too much time had passed to justify making a sequel. At the same time Blade Runner is such a beloved classic that it’s hard to not give such a project the chance to succeed. If this trailer is anything to go by, we may very well be in for a treat, with the tone remaining true to the original, whilst embracing modern effects. As for the context of the trailer, it still remains very much in the “teaser” category, as despite giving more than enough to entice, there isn’t enough to predict how successful it will be and how it will shape up next to the original.
But what do you think? Are you excited to see Deckard return? Or should such classics be left alone?
