Last week Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter to share with the world the first look at Zazie Beetz as Domino in Deadpool 2. Since then we have gotten some set pics to ponder over, but none of these compare to the latest images the actor has shared. I give you the first look at Nathaniel Summers, aka Cable, in the upcoming David Leitch (John Wick) directed sequel. Since it was first announced that Josh Brolin was playing the time travelling mutant, I have been eager to see his transformation into the character, with his teaser post not helping. Now that we finally have our first official glimpse at the talent in the role, there is no doubt in my mind that he is the the perfect choice to take on this iconic hero.
The first image is a simple close-up shot of our time displaced mutant giving the shh motion (looking intimidating whilst doing so). Not long after this was posted we got a second look at Josh Brolin as Cable, which shows him fully equipped for action, featuring his signature robotic arm, plenty of ammunition and a huge gun over his shoulder. The most interesting addition to this second image, however, comes from the worn teddy bear hanging from his belt strap. Though this seems like a strange addition to the hard as nails hero, it may very well be a nod to the character’s comic book lineage, having been the surrogate father of “mutant messiah” Hope Summers.
We may be the better part of a year away from the movie’s June 1, 2018 release date, but that doesn’t stop all this recent news from raising our expectations. Being a fan of the first instalment, all I can hope for is that Fox can find similar success in this sequel. And if the action and dialogue given to Josh Brolin proves to be anywhere near as impressive as the work put in by the makeup department and visual effects team, then… “let’s just say it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.”
But what do you think? Are you ready to get a taste of the future? Will Josh Brolin rock Cable?
